Intinction out
Make it stand out
The Parochial Church Council has agreed that, following a letter from the Bishop, the elements (the bread and the wine) may be taken in both or either kinds ie. both the bread and the wine or either separately.
This means that the practice of dipping the bread into the wine -intinction.- that was widely undertaken is no longer allowed.
Bishop Michael said intinction is considered unsafe and should be adopted in exceptional circumstances and be conducted by the president only. “It should be noted there are significant hygiene concerns that contagions may also be spread by intinction itself by the communicant’s fingers touching the outside of the chalice or the wine. Significant consideration should also be given to those who have severe allergies, particularly to gluten, where cross-contamination could result in illness.”
