The song is ended, but the melody lingers on

Church chorister Quinton Johnstone was steeped in music. He spent a lifetime in the choir stalls, walking from Shustoke to sing in the church twice on Sundays as a child.

He was in the town band most of his life from an early age, becoming band secretary, and played The Last Post on Remembrance Sundays. Daughter Angela, the Parish Safeguarding Coordinator, remembers going to contests and performances with him in Manchester, Leamington Spa and Tamworth Castle. She added: “Dad could play many instruments, but his favourite was the cornet. Sadly his musical talent did not pass on to me!”

The electronic piano next to the stalls commemorates his service to the church. Covid precautions meant that the organ could not be played, so it has been well used.
