Five Fifield features

A big Bible for the eagle lectern, two bells and two warden’s staves are in memory of family members from successful local businessman Alfred Fifield.

He recognised his good fortune, telling a meeting of the Warwickshire Bellringers’ Guild meeting at the church on Saturday, 5 January 1924 that it was a red-letter day in the history of ringing in the town. Coleshill ringers had invited the Warwickshire ringers, in the words of vicar "to give the new trebles, and the old six, a good shaking up.'

Mr Fifield said he was pleased to do what he had done in giving the two trebles. He was an old ringer himself, and his son was now a ringer at the old church, which was always first in his thoughts

He told the meeting he was thankful God had prospered him and he knew of no letter way of showing his thankfulness then giving something back in the form of the bells. He was also a benefactor of the town band, and has a room named after him at the town hall.
