How to clock off for an hour

Sorry about the mess in the clock room: if I knew you were coming I’d have tidied up.

Got a couple of minutes? I’ll show you how I adjusted the clock to take account of the clocks going back. No one has seen this before.

I stopped it about ten minutes before 11am (old time) by stopping the pendulum. It needed two goes before it stopped: it’s heavy and has a lot of power in it. I rang for service downstairs, then went up to the clock room and restarted the clock by pushing and pulling the pendulum gently until the clock began to tick.

Adjusting the time in spring is easy - just turn the grey wheel forward an hour. To see what happens when 11 strikes, click here.
