Gold telly stars

Church warden and farmer Eric Gold gave the 1519 chalice back to the church after it had been used by generations of the Haddon family as a sugar bowl.

Probably originally used as a chalice at the priory next door, it was rededicated in 1961.

In 1953, the Gold family were on national TV. The Radio Times for 16 January (left) shows him as introducing them on the farm section of Country Calendar,
